Why The Dyke March Needs Your Help?
After 18 years, the volunteer-led Dyke March is having serious financial difficulty that may result in canceling this year’s march. This year we need to cover the enormous cost of port-o-potties, insurance and park fees – costs were previously donated or waived. In addition, some of our grant funding has been cut, leaving us with almost nothing to cover essential expenses like set up, accessibility and clean up.
We need to raise $30,000 to cover the cost of the event.

Mazacote is the hard-swinging, old-school salsa group of legendary percussionist Louie Romero, who came to fans’ attention as the longtime timbales player for famed salsero “El Cantante” Hector Lavoe. Louie is also renowned for his work with Willie Colón, Rubén Blades, Celia Cruz, Ron Carter, and other salsa and jazz stars in his native New York.

Based in San Francisco, Mazacote plays a crowd-pleasing, high-energy mixture of classic salsa favorites and original latin jazz tunes. It’s no wonder that Latin Beat magazine called Mazacote “one of the premier salsa ensembles in Northern California.” [website]

Get your salsa on with us!!! Join the El Rio crew in welcoming back master timbalero Louis Romero and his ORQUESTA MAZACOTE to the El Rio patio stage. Come early for our fabulous salsa class with Rosa! All levels welcome, so don’t be shy! Doors open 3pm, showtime at 4:15. Bring it!!!!!!!!!

“Melvins/Minutemen/QOTSA-styled stoner rock that generally refuses to sit still.

“…Fucking awesome. The perfect mix of Harvey Milk, Jesus Lizard, Melvins, nomeansno, and Danzig all while tuning it into their own unique sound. It was everything that has been good about rock music and what is good about rock music now. I highly recommend these guys and it was nice to be completely blown away by an opening band I had never heard a note from before.”
