Socialized is a San Francisco-based pop/rock band influenced by 80’s new wave and mainstream pop/rock. The band was formed in 2006 by Eric Johnson (vocals/bass), Dave Dolinar (guitar/vocals), and Andre Sanchez (drums/vocals). The group’s name refers to the social nature of music and not to the band’s politics.

The band’s music is a mixture of 80’s new wave, rock, & experimental. All of Socialized’s music is available for free on the band’s website.

Fleeting Trance is the songwriting & recording project of Manasseh Bernal. Fleeting Trance is currently based in Oakland, California and can be seen fairly often in bay area clubs and occasionally on tour. The current line-up consists of drums, bass, guitar, keyboard, pedal & lap steel guitar. Manasseh began playing guitar & writing songs in 1996 and started playing out in 1998. Fleeting Trance released it’s debut CD entitled “17″ in May of 2009 and is due to release it’s second C.D. in January 2010.

“Named for the number of tracks, 17 is classic folksy, bluesy americana. What listeners might not expect is the occasional reggae influences that show up on some songs. The addition of reggae is a nice touch, and fits well with the band’s overall sound. Lyrics are entertainly messed up.”

The Aimless began as a recording project for singer/songwriter Jon Latimer. The project attracted the interest of several close friends, and the band started gigging around Sonoma County in 2005. In 2006, the band relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area, and subsequently released two EPs on Tricycle Records in 2007 (”Oh, if they could fly”, “The Bright Side”). In 2008, they released their first full-length, self-titled album on Devil In The Woods Records. Rearranging themselves as a three piece in 2009, Latimer and bassist Andrew Macy tapped friend and veteran percussionist Eric Kuhn of Silian Rail to play on their latest ‘Tran EP’, now available on 500 Records.

This instrumental duo captures the brooding Portland raincloud sound that so many tragic youngsters have otherwise sold their soul to (re)locate near. The Friendly Skies aren’t trying to elevate their levels of Frippery, but guitar triumphs over keyboard and the energy of the room bleeds out with some several well articulated well played refrains.

The Hooks were born in a Church Hall in Rosses Point, Co. Sligo, Ireland by the two Mulligan brothers (Nigel & Keith). Ronan muscled his way in later on while Nigel slipped out the side door…

Gigs with many musical luminaries include: The Pogues, X, The Stiff Little Fingers, The Bravery, Flogging Molly,The Corona’s, The Filthy Thieving Bastards, Me First & The Gimme Gimmes.

Vacillating between the agit-driven punk rock they are famous for interspersed with galloping Irish trad (played fast loud, and sometimes Gaelic) with a twist. The Hooks recorded two EP’s (10,000 Feet EP & Irish Punk Rock Anthems) at NOFX’s Motor Studio’s with Jamie McMann. The album tracks are in the can, it’s just a matter of mixing and mastering. In the last century or so, technology has greatly altered how history was passed along, through radio, television, the internet, and movies. There once was a time where storytelling came by word of mouth; from parents and grandparents, to bards that played through the villages and towns. In the era of electronic media and communication, it seems as if the art of storytelling has fallen by the wayside. Luckily, strewn through out this modern landscape are a few remaining bards who are still willing to share with us their superbly executed, original songs.

The Filthy Thieving Bastards’ songwriting duo of Johnny Bonnel and Darius Koski are two of these aforementioned bards…[myspace]

“Musicality serves as the driving force behind the work of Cody Giannotti. For Giannotti music simultaneously acts as a release from the pressures of modern society, as well as a scientific method through which to examine them. It is through the sheer harmonious joy of his lush vocal landscapes that we are able to access the deeper philosophical meaning of his work.”

Heartache, intensity, longing, and unrequited love. These are the themes that dominate my music. I have always been a vocalist. I taught myself piano senior year in high school and the rest is history. All my songs are original lyrics and ideas. And while creating and writing songs are the most amazing things to do, I find performing live is the most incredible experience I have ever had.

“A virtuoso of acoustic upright double bass, Whiton slaps, bows, maneuvers, and manipulates his instrument with orchestral precision and street-corner desperation.” –Silke Tudor, SF Weekly, SF, CA

He has invented and developed a right-hand slap technique that is absolutely his own. He uses effects widely, transforming the wooden sound of his upright bass into caterwauling, distorted wah-wah, electronica synth rubberized wet bass, buzzsaw distortion. He orchestrates the rhythm section around the textures he pulls out of his bass. Above all, he is tasteful, building space into groove and playing with an attention to the whole.

The Yes Go’s were started by Sophie V writing music & playing songs on the guitar. In 2003, Lester Moore joined as drummer & back-up vox. With the addition of Mimi on lead vocals and Barbara on bass that summer, we became “Wednesday Night”. 5 days before our 1st gig, Mimi & Barbara (our Hungarian Hotties) were not allowed to stay in the U.S.A. (visa probs!) & we played our 1st show as a duo called Sik Suzan. In 2004, Blue Lew (Rotton Core), joined the band on bass & b.vox. We played shows off/on and had lots of fun, but we (BL. not inc.) drank too much, and we still didn’t really have an identity. Through Blue Lew’s departure in Summer 2006, it was back to a duo & the new name of The Yes Go’s fall ‘06 when the multi-facetd Djuna Gray became our bass player. It’s been balls to the walls ever since and The Yes Go’s love to play (alot) & can be found playing with many local & touring bands. We are continually amazed at the talent we see at all of S.F.’s venues. We are proud to share the bill with & be awed by such killer bands. Go out and see some shows cause we support local venues and killer music as well, cheers. [myspace]

“This stuff is awesome. Blissed out, effects flecked krauty space rock, heavy on the drift and shimmer and meander. Strings buzz, sounds swoop and stutter backwards, the drums are simple and motorik, synths whir, flutes flutter, the group slips from full on heart of the sun space jam, to Circle-esque hypnorock, to ethereal almost ambient groove, to Eastern style ur-drone to Santana sounding Latin tinged psychedelic rock to heavy tripped out metallic sounding stoner rock freakouts to full on trippy dubbiness, all woven into one extended and nearly seamless druggy outrock sprawl.”–Aquarius Records, San Francisco, CA

Over the last couple years Mi Ami have become a serious and sweaty inspiration for the music scene here in San Francisco. Whether it’s playing and hosting all night dance parties in living rooms, or DJ’ing African jams and cosmic disco in dark rooms with reckless abandon, the three guys in Mi Ami have shown that they have a deep and vast appreciation for music of all styles and variations. This is a band whose record collections are as likely to have vinyl from DNA and JFA as they would M.I.A. and MDC. But thankfully, they are one of the few bands who makes music as cool and exciting as the records in their collections.
