Danilo Y Universal
http://www.danilo-y-universal.com/
In his extensive musical career, Danilo has played with extraordinary internationally known musicians such as Ray Baretto, Ruben Blades, Mary Wilson of the Supremes, Benny Velarde and his Super Combo, Andy Narell, Ray Obiedo, Dave Valentin, Dizzy Gillespie, and Cal Tjader. He demonstrates some of his best work on bongo and vocals on Ruben Blades’ CD, “Ruben Blades and Son del Solar, Live!”
“I feel lucky knowing that I have such a strong foundation in jazz, Caribbean music, and at the same time was exposed to the great soneros such as Cheo Feliciano, Ruben Blades Ruben Blades, Hector La Voe, and Rafael de Jesus. I have taken these roots and have developed my own style of singing, composing and producing my music. I am a person who believes in the future and in the latest innovations (technological and other), and believe that Salsa and Latin Jazz should continue evolving, but we should not forget our roots.”

The Reaction
Live music w/ The Reaction
When: Sat Mar 20
Time: 9pm door; 10pm show
Cost: $7
Details
THE REACTION (ex-members of Hickoids / 50 Million / Kirby Grips)
http://www.myspace.com/thereactionsf
http://starcleaner.com/rightnow.htm
The conditions of the Reaction’s activity explain both its discipline and the forms of hostility it encounters. they are interested not in finding a niche in the present artistic edifice, but in undermining it. The Reaction is in the catacombs of visible culture. Our times thus compel us, once again, to write in a new way. Some elements will be intentionally omitted; and the plan will have to remain unclear. Listeners will encounter certain decoys, like the very hallmark of the era. As long as certain notes are interpolated here and there, the overall meaning may appear: just as secret clauses have very often been added to whatever treaties may openly stipulate; just as some chemical agents only reveal their hidden properties when they are combined with others. However, there will be only too many things which are, alas, easy to understand. The Reaction seeks to convey the tenuous balance between object and action by which they maintain the tentative relations with the forces they organize, and how they are inherently subject to change, capable of resisting closure and objectification by acknowledging and engaging NOISE . Inferno of Joy
Live music w/ Inferno Of Joy
When: Sat Mar 20
Time: 9pm door; 10pm show
Cost: $7
Details
INFERNO OF JOY (ex-members of Phoenix Thunderstone) – Headliner
http://www.myspace.com/infernoofjoy
Inferno of Joy was conceived a few years following the conflagration of San Francisco based Punk/ Rock n’ Roll band Phoenix Thunderstone- comprised of Sean, Neither/Neither World’s infamous Wendy Van Dusen, Hugh, Lemon DeGeorge, and ex- Dwarves Vadge Moore. Following a long search, Sean was able to locate Hugh in Burma. E-mail correspondence followed. Shortly thereafter, Sean, accompanied by millionaire International Playboy, sound engineer, and spiritual adviser Lemon DeGeorge, arrived in Asia to rendezvous with Hugh. In early 2006- a new music vision was realized. Armed with their experience touring extensively throughout the United States and Japan; a decision was made to sever ties with a record industry grown glaringly Jurassic, this new collaboration would have no musical bounds.
Upon returning to the United States, Argentinean bassist Adrian was recruited from a latin burlesque troupe, and percussion powerhouse- Brian, was fortuitously thwarted in his imminent Arizona relocation to a life of meditation and misanthropic solitude. The new campaign has begun… there’s a new VooDoo, determined to assassinate morality and all vestiges of bovine culture- an invitation to gaze unblinkingly into the depths of gods and men; the perfect ecstatic marriage of Heaven and Hell! the Inferno of Joy…[myspace]

The Midway Delta
Live music w/ Midway Delta
When: Sat Mar 20
Time: 3pm
Cost: $8
Details
Midway Delta
http://www.myspace.com/martinschneider
THE MIDWAY DELTA’S Martin Schneider and John Kontogianis have known each other casually for nearly 15 years, often running into each other at Bay Area local independent music venues hosting the best bands. They talked about playing music together many times and came awfully close in 1998 when Martin tried out for an open bass slot in John’s band JOLLY. Martin chose to stay with his band at the time THE LIVING ROOMS only to see them fall apart several months later and after JOLLY were on the move with a new bassist. They made contact again when John sent an e-mail to Martin’s Myspace band page for LIGHT SLEEPERS to catch up. His timing was good, LIGHT SLEEPERS was about to lose a member to the state of North Carolina and two others to another band. THE MIDWAY DELTA rehearses in the basement of a music store in Antioch, CA drawing inspiration from both the room full of lonely pianos above their heads and the rising and falling waters of the nearby Delta. The Baths • Photo by Madeline Allard
Live music w/ The Baths
When: Wed Mar 10
Time: 8pm
Cost: $7
Details
The Baths
http://www.myspace.com/baths
“This Bay Area quartet plays ’60s rock ‘n’ roll with lush vocal harmonies, folk-rock guitar-play and a twinge of Big Star proto-punk.
The Baths are a reverb-loving crew, ending and beginning “Be Afraid of Me” with guitar static. On top of its jangly paisley-rock, the Baths sing cryptic, literal lyrics about “death and dying,” as guitarist-vocalist Jeremy Cox explains via e-mail, which follow narratives of the strange and demonic. They also cover idols like the Gories and the Stooges, infusing their music with a raw 21st century power.” -Michelle Broder Van Dyke, SF Gate

Ty Segull

Burying ’60s sing-alongs and dance crazes beneath waves of reverb and giddy thud, Ty Segall carved out his own shelf in the neo-psych garage alongside SF compatriots and collaborators Sic Alps and Thee Oh Sees. As an exploration of the space between Cro-Magnon fuzz and atmospheric acoustic psych, Ty Segall continues to crank out the best new garage rock from San Francisco. -

The Fresh & Only's • Photo by Brian Pritchard
Live music w/ The Fresh & Onlys
When: Wed Mar 10
Time: 8pm
Cost: $7
Details
Fresh and Onlys
http://www.myspace.com/thefreshonlys
The Fresh & Onlys shambles barefoot through Summer of Love-style guitar and tambourine jams, strewing lyrical oddities and flower garlands along the path that leads, if not to where Syd Barrett lives, at least to Dan Treacy’s neighborhood [Dusted Review]
The Fresh & Onlys formed just last year in San Francisco, but they already boast more music to their name than most bands manage in twice that time. Over the course of a flurry of 7″s, a limited-edition cassette, and two full-length albums– last spring’s self-titled and now Grey-Eyed Girls– you can hear the sound of a young band busily honing in on what they’re good at. In case you weren’t tipped off by their almost distractingly evocative band name (should we be thinking of the Only Ones, or the Young Fresh Fellows?), the Fresh & Onlys traffic in jangly garage-pop, balancing psych-rock swagger with generous dollops of sweetly cockeyed melody. Thee Oh Sees
Live music w/ Thee Oh Sees
When: Wed Mar 10
Time: 8pm
Cost: $7
Details Thee Oh Sees
http://www.myspace.com/ohsees
San Francisco’s John Dwyer used to push primitive blues-rock to ultraraucous extremes in Coachwhips. His current band, Thee Oh Sees (formerly OCS), also draws on vintage styles—woozy ’50s-style pop, Troggs-like stomp—but it funnels them into something hushed and pervasively eerie. Sucks Blood brims with oddities like “What the Driven Drink,” in which Dwyer and Brigid Dawson croon like teen lovers at the soda fountain, even as weird wisps of sculpted static drift by. “The Gouger” juxtaposes cryptically ominous lyrics with pillowy, old-timey reverb and a twinkling guitar lead. Many a savage punk has gone tame with age, but that evolution rarely has this kind of intoxicating power. — Hank Shteamer

LiTiDo
http://www.myspace.com/latidoson
“LaTiDo” is the Spanish word for heartbeat. “LaTiDo” is a quartet that specializes in danceable traditional Cuban music styles like “Son,” “Cha-cha-cha,” “Guajira,” “Mambo,” and “Bolero” among others. In spite of their brief existence (since 2003) this explosive quartet has garnered a great reputation throughout the Bay Area among dancers and listeners alike, having performed to sold out audiences at re-known venues like Yoshi’s, Yerba Buena Gardens, San Francisco Jazz Festival, Stanford Jazz Concert Series, San José Jazz Festival and Sonoma Jazz Festival to mention a few. “LaTiDo’s” music takes us back in time, invites us to dance, and it is equally enjoyed by the more laid back listener. Close intricate vocal harmonies, the rhythm pulse of the Bongó drum and Bass, the unique sound of the traditional Tres Guitar (a three double set string instrument developed in Cuba) the Flute and the lively compositions are surely to please every audience. “LaTiDo” plays Latin Music from the heart.

Fiction Like Candy
Her flair for the dramatic swirls through the music ambitiously, yet the drama now seems more honest, the sentiment sweeter and more vulnerable. The most recent incarnation of Fiction Like Candy is a little less fiction, a little more candy. And it will still leave you craving more…
