8th Annual COWGIRL PALOOZA: Live music w/ 77 El Deora ~ Wicked Mercies ~ The Bootcuts ~ The Evangenitals ~ Los Train Wrecks
When: Mon, Sept 6
Time: 3-9pm
Cost: $10
Details:
COWGIRL PALOOZA
Come one, come all, come out and play at the 8th Annual COWGIRL PALOOZA festival at San Francisco’s El Rio on LABOR DAY.

Incredible femme-powered country/western/punk/funk/and all-around-good-time bands dominate the day, on the beautiful outdoor courtyard stage.

Free BBQ is available for all (so long as it lasts!) so come early and enjoy the free food while listening to incredible music all day long!

77 El Deora

77 El Deora
http://www.77eldeora.com
Maurice Tani, Jenn Courtney & 77 El Deora is a San Francisco-based, 5-piece, alt-country/Americana outfit. Formed in 2004, the band has honed its sound through diet, exercise and constant live shows, amassing a loyal following of discriminating roots music aficionados and other social misfits.

Wicked Mercies

Wicked Mercies

http://www.myspace.com/wickedmercies
Eight Piece Powerhouse fronted by three talented women who really know how to work the crowd. This is the real deal, working class local talent that brings the sound of San Francisco street soul to the people.

Wicked Mercies is a funky soul band. Listening to them gives me a goofy smile as I raise my hands in the air and sporadically scream, Oh Yeah, to the dismay of my neighbors. Does life have you down? Are you depressed? Flick your Prozac down the drain and just put Wicked Mercies on continuous play. Shake it proud. They are The Supremes for 2010. Addie, Crystal and Ashley front the group with their powerful energy and vocals. The band backs them with their soul and funk fusion. A perfect accompaniment.- Tony DuShane, SFGate.com

The Bootcuts

The Bootcuts
http://www.bootcuts.com
We had very humble beginnings starting out as a cubicle-based trio (Cristal, Meg and Matt) singing songs about hyperactive cats, swampbuggies and tornadoes. It’s all we knew.

As we added key members to the band–Lori on vocals, Tom on bass, Ross on drums–we developed our sound and expanded our songwriting to include topics such as building relationships, the destruction of those relationships, and the rebuilding of THOSE destructed relationships. And we ramped up a pretty fun live show in the process.

“Misisipi” Mike Wolf was added to replace ex-boyfriend guitarist Jon Seltzer (long story) and there you have the modern sounds of The Bootcuts. [website]

The Evangenitals
http://www.evangenitals.com
The Evangenitals, founded by playwright/director Juli Crockett and opera/jazz singer Lisa Dee, features Henry Bermudez on lead guitar, fiddler Andrea Baker, Ari DeSano on accordion, drummer Kristy McInnis, and Nathan Phelps currently doing duty on the upright bass.

They are an alt-country hillbilly love punk rock revolution of the freak folk/Americana variety made flesh for your listening pleasure. On a quixotic crusade in the key of life hell-bent on breaking all the world’s hearts open..[website]

Since New Year’s Day 1992, six accomplished bay-area band veterans have come together once a month to host “Los Train Wreck’s All-Star Jam,” now at El Rio on the second Tuesday of every month. Come on down to sit in or listen.

As “Don’t Quit Your Day Job” Records’ house band, we have had the dubious honor of recording music with dozens of authors, including Amy Tan, Ben Fong-Torres, Norman Mailer, Maya Angelou, Jessica Mitford, and former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich.

Don’t miss this amazing day of music at El Rio!

The Kitchen Fire Band (Alt.Country-Rock)
http://www.myspace.com/kitchenfireband
Drinking, Driving and Desire… Just a few theme’s evoked by San Francisco’s own Kitchen Fire. This alternative country band blends tight, signature harmonies with dark tinged urban edged twang and guitar driven of rock ‘n roll. They tell stories of love and desire, bedrooms and break-ups, and endless rolling highways. Kitchen Fire plays a mix of memorable original songs and obscure covers by amazing songwriters that drives the bus from swing to rockabilly to country and straight-up bar room “hell yeah” rock ‘n roll. If you like your country bourbon on the “rocks”, you’ll want to come closer to the fire…
