Drunk Horse emphasizes the interpenetration of what are usually called “mind” and “body”. According to this idea, people’s deeply-held thoughts make them ill or at least create the preconditions for disease and psychological problems. We work to remove deeply held resentments, to release unexpressed emotions, to assuage buried terror (all of which, in this view, are caused by deeply held thoughts), in order to build self-confidence and to plant in people a positive and hopeful view of their path through life. ..

FOLLOWING the sudden implosion of Parchman Farm, singer Eric Shea knew that he had only two options; start a Firefall tribute band named High On Firefall or build a heavy punk ‘n’ roll quartet by sandwiching members from his favorite San Francisco bands. Following his gut, he pursued the sandwich. [facebook]

The band CARLTON MELTON formed along the Mendocino County coastline in Northern California on the weekend of July 17th, 2008. The idea to play live, loud, improvised, experimental, instrumental, psychedelic music in a geodesic dome had been discussed for many years prior to this date. The opportunity came to fruition after the dome was completely rebuilt and the acoustic sounds inside were fully realized.

The conditions of the Reaction’s activity explain both its discipline and the forms of hostility it encounters. they are interested not in finding a niche in the present artistic edifice, but in undermining it. The Reaction is in the catacombs of visible culture. Our times thus compel us, once again, to write in a new way. Some elements will be intentionally omitted; and the plan will have to remain unclear. Listeners will encounter certain decoys, like the very hallmark of the era. As long as certain notes are interpolated here and there, the overall meaning may appear: just as secret clauses have very often been added to whatever treaties may openly stipulate; just as some chemical agents only reveal their hidden properties when they are combined with others. However, there will be only too many things which are, alas, easy to understand. The Reaction seeks to convey the tenuous balance between object and action by which they maintain the tentative relations with the forces they organize, and how they are inherently subject to change, capable of resisting closure and objectification by acknowledging and engaging NOISE . The Aimless began as a recording project for singer/songwriter Jon Latimer. The project attracted the interest of several close friends, and the band started gigging around Sonoma County in 2005. In 2006, the band relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area, and subsequently released two EPs on Tricycle Records in 2007 (“Oh, if they could fly”, “The Bright Side”). In 2008, they released their first full-length, self-titled album on Devil In The Woods Records. Rearranging themselves as a three piece in 2009, Latimer and bassist Andrew Macy tapped friend and veteran percussionist Eric Kuhn of Silian Rail to play on their latest ‘Tran EP’, now available on 500 Records.

“Musicality serves as the driving force behind the work of Cody Giannotti. For Giannotti music simultaneously acts as a release from the pressures of modern society, as well as a scientific method through which to examine them. It is through the sheer harmonious joy of his lush vocal landscapes that we are able to access the deeper philosophical meaning of his work.”

“This stuff is awesome. Blissed out, effects flecked krauty space rock, heavy on the drift and shimmer and meander. Strings buzz, sounds swoop and stutter backwards, the drums are simple and motorik, synths whir, flutes flutter, the group slips from full on heart of the sun space jam, to Circle-esque hypnorock, to ethereal almost ambient groove, to Eastern style ur-drone to Santana sounding Latin tinged psychedelic rock to heavy tripped out metallic sounding stoner rock freakouts to full on trippy dubbiness, all woven into one extended and nearly seamless druggy outrock sprawl.”–Aquarius Records, San Francisco, CA

Catchy experimental dance pop.

Laptops killed the DJs of the nineties, but we brought ourselves back to life with alchemy. Occasionally we forget about proving a point long enough to actually enjoy ourselves. Dancing in our beds, the party has left us; we like to think we know everything when we are by ourselves. ***

From Idaho!!!! The BEST band from potato land!

It’s rare for a band to tour for 245 days in the span of a year. It’s even less common for said band to a) hail from Hailey, Idaho (population 7,844) and b) decide to relocate to a small, shared cabin in the Pioneer Mountain Range for those 120 days per year that they are home. Fortunately for us, Idaho three-piece Finn Riggins embraces and exemplifies the glory inherent in approaching one’s creative life from an anomalous perspective. [myspace]

Jack O’The Clock brings a quietly giddy sort of energy to the possibilities that spring up where American folk songwriting meets experimental music. The group’s sound, a jangly mix of concert-hall agility, acoustic rock drive, and junk shop scouring, is characterized by innovative arrangements for combinations of instruments you are not likely to have heard elsewhere made possible by the vastly varied musical experience and multi-instrumentalism of its five members, who have played everything from new music to art metal to fingerstyle folk to free improvisation, sometimes in the same concert. Jack O’ The Clock’s recordings go beyond the group’s live sound to incorporate bits of on-location percussion, found sounds, clandestinely recorded monologues, citynoise, and all manner of insects and birds, as well as a number of guest musicians and singers.

1/9/2010 Live music w/ Grex

Live music w/ Grex

When: Sat Jan 9
Time: 7-9pm
Cost: FREE
Details:
Grex (greks) n. 1. a multicellular aggregate of the groups Acrasiomycota or Dictyosteliida, formed for the purposes of travel and food collection. 2. a Bay Area creative music partnership composed of Karl A.D. Evangelista and Margaret Rei Scampavia.
Grex (the band) was formed in and around the Mills College music axis, late night inside jokes, and intense dissections of South African music, emphasizing genre bending, cross-idiomatic conceits and melding elements of mostly everything (Evangelista has a background in free jazz and Scampavia is a biologist) into something stark and eldritch.
Remarks HurdAudio, “The striking thing about this music was its stubborn refusal to eschew any element in favor of another… offered with a headlong creative urge that made the unexpected turns and sequences into a joyful expression.”
