FOLLOWING the sudden implosion of Parchman Farm, singer Eric Shea knew that he had only two options; start a Firefall tribute band named High On Firefall or build a heavy punk ‘n’ roll quartet by sandwiching members from his favorite San Francisco bands. Following his gut, he pursued the sandwich.

Since he had a fondness for heavy acid-rock of the late 1960s and early 1970s, Shea called up Aaron Nudelman to ask if he still played guitar with the wild and shirtless abandon of his former band Mensclub. Nudelman said that although a recent court-order demanded he keep his shirt on in a public setting, he was still summoning a six-string jihad and that it would behoove Shea to lose his longhaired, backwoods, bow-hunting Republican pride and negotiate with guitarrorists.

Two negotiations and twelve beers later, Shea and Nudelman were knocking on the door of Rob Alper, as both drunk men were longtime fans of Alper’s drum work with Estrus Records darlings, The Fells as well as his contributions to The Sermon’s Volume. Alper apologized for answering the door naked before admitting that he liked the idea of dusting off his behemoth drum-kit and beating the living hell out of those drums like they were his own beloved children.

Two twelvers and nine high-fives later Shea, Nudelman and Alper knew they needed a bass player to flesh out their rock sandwich – and not just any bass player but a lead bass player without herpes. Enter Charlie Karr. A former member of The Hostiliteens and Alternative Tentacles recordings artists Harold Ray Live In Concert, Karr already had much in common with the others, especially their love for surfing, skateboarding, barbequing and playing heavy rock so loud that it melted the faces right off the skulls of evil Nazis, much like the end scene in Raiders Of The Lost Ark.

But the group also shared a lusty hunger for noontime meals served piping hot, which led them to one of the most clever, well thought-out and originally conceptualized monikers in the history of all music: HOT LUNCH. [from Facebook]

“Getting into trouble hanging out with Nick -The scenester girls are pretty, but they make us sick.”.. .. The Jack Saints started in Palm Springs, Ca back in 1995. Shortly after we moved to San Francisco. Released a split 10″ with the Idiots, and put out a full length on Scooch Pooch/Sub Pop and toured. A few years ago Regal left and was replaced by ex New Bomb turk drummer, Bill Randt. We put out our 2nd full length, toured Europe again and played in SF with one of our favorites, Fitz of Depression! .. Weapons of the Future are instruments of creation. An innovative and powerful indie rock band with a touch of sci-fi, psychedelic, and garage rock. Take Interpol, mix it with the Cramps, Sonic Youth, and Morphine and you might get an idea of the Weapons Of the Future sound. Nevertheless, playing live is where they shine the most. The moodiness of the keyboard sounds and the mysticism of the front man’s lyrics are complimented by the solid dance grooves created by the rhythm section. They go through the set captivating the audience through multiple mediums, both visual and sonic.

Street light Suzie is a toxic trio consisting of Wiley Ross on Guitar and Vocals, Ben Evans on the Bass and Chuy Trevino on the drums. Street light Suzie began when Wiley moved to Austin from Springfield Missouri and Ben from Denver Colorado. The first handful of bands Ben tried playin with were a bunch of tools, as was the case with Wiley. So out of frustration Ben put an add in the musician section of the Chronicle that read, “looking for other musicians to drink beer, smoke pot and Rock out…” Wiley was one of the only few who responded. They immediatelly started practicing in Ben’s shitty apt. and once they had a handfull of songs down they started looking for a drummer. They went through 24 try outs (most so excrutiating we don’t even wanna talk about it) until they found Drummer 1. But only after a small handful of shows he left the band. As was the case with drummers 2, drummer 3 and 4. But none the less they made progress playing rowdy show after rowdy show. They now have landed Chuy Trevino on the drums and play shows all the time all over the United States. [myspace]

Some people say the Grannies are the inevitable end result from a society that has abandoned its educational system and lost all contact with its morality and civic cohesiveness. The truth, of course, is much, much worse. The old, now defunct Mission Police Station, San Francisco circa 1999 is as good a birthplace as any for a phenomena as degenerate and altogether fucked up as The Grannies. The blame could be laid at the feet of Fate, but Fate already catches a lot of shit just by standing around, and really wants nothing to do with something as mentally debilitating as The Grannies anyway. Somewhere between 30 and 163 years old, they were drawn to each other there in the fetid human-ish stew slopped together in the holding cells. Petty crimes involving Wild Turkey, electricity, naugahyde, Top Ramen, pigeon feathers (“fresh”), Drano, or some combination thereof would be the official reasons for the various Grannies’ incarcerations that fateful night (yes, we know, Fate, you already cleared yourself, so piss off), if any official record existed.
