Weapons of the Future are instruments of creation. An innovative and powerful indie rock band with a touch of sci-fi, psychedelic, and garage rock. Take Interpol, mix it with the Cramps, Sonic Youth, and Morphine and you might get an idea of the Weapons Of the Future sound. Nevertheless, playing live is where they shine the most. The moodiness of the keyboard sounds and the mysticism of the front man’s lyrics are complimented by the solid dance grooves created by the rhythm section. They go through the set captivating the audience through multiple mediums, both visual and sonic.

The Aimless began as a recording project for singer/songwriter Jon Latimer. The project attracted the interest of several close friends, and the band started gigging around Sonoma County in 2005. In 2006, the band relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area, and subsequently released two EPs on Tricycle Records in 2007 (“Oh, if they could fly”, “The Bright Side”). In 2008, they released their first full-length, self-titled album on Devil In The Woods Records. Rearranging themselves as a three piece in 2009, Latimer and bassist Andrew Macy tapped friend and veteran percussionist Eric Kuhn of Silian Rail to play on their latest ‘Tran EP’, now available on 500 Records.

This instrumental duo captures the brooding Portland raincloud sound that so many tragic youngsters have otherwise sold their soul to (re)locate near. The Friendly Skies aren’t trying to elevate their levels of Frippery, but guitar triumphs over keyboard and the energy of the room bleeds out with some several well articulated well played refrains.

Heartache, intensity, longing, and unrequited love. These are the themes that dominate my music. I have always been a vocalist. I taught myself piano senior year in high school and the rest is history. All my songs are original lyrics and ideas. And while creating and writing songs are the most amazing things to do, I find performing live is the most incredible experience I have ever had.

Boy lion is a constantly modulating collaboration between Timothy Owen and talented musicians from around the bay area. Timothy grew up in Northern California and was writing music by age seven. Classically trained, Timothy has taken his love for the old-school songwriting of Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Joni Mitchell and so many others and joined it with the intimacy and range of classical chamber music. His first full length record, coming out soon, showcases the range of his compositions from sparse tracks featuring only piano and voice, to complicated ensemble pieces. Boy Lion performances are always different from the one before, and tend to be highly organic showcases based on the vibe of the venue, crowd and complexity of the particular incarnation of the ensemble. From Idaho!!!! The BEST band from potato land!
It’s rare for a band to tour for 245 days in the span of a year. It’s even less common for said band to a) hail from Hailey, Idaho (population 7,844) and b) decide to relocate to a small, shared cabin in the Pioneer Mountain Range for those 120 days per year that they are home. Fortunately for us, Idaho three-piece Finn Riggins embraces and exemplifies the glory inherent in approaching one’s creative life from an anomalous perspective. [myspace]
