Lagtime is a three-piece, improv–fusion band. Our music is rooted in rocky fusion, but spans topics such as jazz, funk, reggae and blues. We live mostly down deep in the pocket, but with the liberating guidance of jazz, we make brief re–surfacings to the head to remind you of where you (we) are.

With us, interplay is the name of the game as each member feeds off the others. Rock-solid beats and jazzy tendencies open the door for groove–based, blues–inspired bass lines and a tapestry of infectious melodies and rock–god solos. [website]

Carrying on the strong West Coast tradition of creating authentic country and western music with a sharp edge, the San Francisco based band Red Meat is dedicated to keeping honky tonk music fresh and alive. Formed in a garage in the Mission District in 1993, Red Meat takes its inspiration from the likes of Bakersfield legend Buck Owens, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Sr. and the Carter Family. They also count Gram Parsons as an influence and visually they recall the salad days of the Modesto, California-based Maddox Brothers and Sister Rose. [myspace]

Head On was started by James Ray, a guitar player transplanted from New Mexico to the San Francisco Bay Area. He soon recruited Mark Berglund, a Bay Area native, as lead vocalist and song writer. Together with Ray, Mark wrote a majority of Head On’s material. Rick Tweed and Howard Teman (bass guitar and drums respectively) were soon added as was lead guitarist Frank Wilsey.

Working their way through and eventually dominating the San Francisco club scene, Head On went on to support such bands as Ted Nugent, Cheap Trick, Joe Perry, Y&T, Motörhead, Aldo Nova, Kix, Shooting Star and others. Noted for their lively and outrageous shows, Head On was likened to such bands as the New York Dolls and Aerosmith.

During its brief career (1980–1984) Head On released several independent collections that were sold at local retailers in the San Francisco Bay Area. They were featured and landed covers on local underground publications as well as being reviewed in the well known British rock magazine Kerrang! Their music was played on local radio stations and the band made guest appearances on local TV. [wikipedia]

Quirky pop delights
[from their website..]

The Margins consist of Alexes Orellana and Wills. We decided to keep it simple for everyone, so we decided to only let people in our band who happen to be named “Alex”. We met at the illustrious University of California, Santa Cruz, and on a whim decided to live in San Francisco. Well, we’ve been here for a couple years now, and find ourselves living in the ever-active Mission District.

I (alexo) grew up listening to Punk here in the Bay Area, and have been in my share of Punk and Ska bands. Then in college, I for some reason became absolutely fascinated by classical music, and decided to get myself a minor in it. Which, I might add, was far more work (and far more rewarding) than my Econ major. I fell in love with people like Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Stravinsky, and the like. While I was there I also found myself writing scores to some of my friend’s short films, which was a pretty incredible experience. So now I have a digital piano+computer keyboard+footpedal going into my computer, which controls hundreds of sampled instruments at my command! I also have a modeling guitar going into an amp modeler going into my computer, to give me a pretty ridiculous arsenal of instruments to play and loop.

Wills has more of a taste for electronic music. He’s always loved tinkering with all kinds of crazy software the same way that you might remember playing with Legos as a kid. Although, that’s not to say that he’s ONLY interested in electronic music, frankly, his tastes are probably a lot broader in a lot of ways compared to mine, possibly because he’s much less of an obsessive douche as I am. One random day a while back, after he realized he had learned to play Rock Band drums to perfection with little to no effort, he decided to take the step to some real drums. On our way to pick up the drums, we saw a truck with about 2 tons of junkyard paraphernalia loaded about 15 feet high with only three wheels, and we knew from that moment on that we should start a fucking sweet ass band. Hopefully he can add more in here so I don’t look like such a self-obsessed douchebag. Currently he’s rocking the whole percussion section, from drums to shaker to the occasional vocal line.

We Are Invisible

We Are Invisible is a three-piece rock band from San Francisco with multiple music personalities. Call it classic Heart meets tough girl Concrete Blond meets the hammer-fisted drums of Clutch. Formed in 2004 after drummer Dom moved to San Francisco by way of Germany, sisters Jennifer and Rebecca immediately began writing the beginnings of their first album (We Are Invisible) and recording at SF’s own Tiny Telephone. After international radio play and several gigs and beers later, the group returned to Tiny to record the shockingly epic and raw GIANT, WAI’s first EU export, released in 2005 on Poison Free Records (PFX). Repeat radio, gigs and beers. In 2007, WAI returned to the studio to record Three, possibly the band’s most cohesive, balanced mix of polyrhythm, drive, and melody. For We Are Invisible, they’d prefer to just call it rock. [myspace]

Following a long search, Sean was able to locate Hugh in Burma. E-mail correspondence followed. Shortly thereafter, Sean, accompanied by millionaire International Playboy, sound engineer, and spiritual adviser Lemon DeGeorge, arrived in Asia to rendezvous with Hugh. In early 2006- a new music vision was realized. Armed with their experience touring extensively throughout the United States and Japan; a decision was made to sever ties with a record industry grown glaringly Jurassic, this new collaboration would have no musical bounds.

THE MIDWAY DELTA’S Martin Schneider and John Kontogianis have known each other casually for nearly 15 years, often running into each other at Bay Area local independent music venues hosting the best bands. They talked about playing music together many times and came awfully close in 1998 when Martin tried out for an open bass slot in John’s band JOLLY. Martin chose to stay with his band at the time THE LIVING ROOMS only to see them fall apart several months later and after JOLLY were on the move with a new bassist. They made contact again when John sent an e-mail to Martin’s Myspace band page for LIGHT SLEEPERS to catch up. His timing was good, LIGHT SLEEPERS was about to lose a member to the state of North Carolina and two others to another band. THE MIDWAY DELTA rehearses in the basement of a music store in Antioch, CA drawing inspiration from both the room full of lonely pianos above their heads and the rising and falling waters of the nearby Delta.
